Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is something parents commonly place their children in for a variety of reasons.
Some parents place them in Jiu-Jitsu to learn how to properly and effectively defend themselves, and in other cases it is just a way for parent to get a short break. Regardless of the reason, the benefits children can gain by training are ENDLESS!
BJJ provides many benefits to children that will follow them for life and create better individuals as a whole. Here are a few reasons why you should enroll your kids with us!
Self Defense
Healthy Lifestyle
Another fantastic benefit to kids who train in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that is greatly overlooked is the physical aspect of training. From the initial warm up to rolling, BJJ is sure to get your heart rate up and the sweat rolling. The CDC (Center For Disease Control) actually came out with an alarming fact:
“The percentage of children aged 6–11 years in the United States who were obese increased from 7% in 1980 to nearly 18% in 2012. Similarly, the percentage of adolescents aged 12–19 years who were obese increased from 5% to nearly 21% over the same period.”
Now more than ever, exercise is incredibly important for our children.
Friendship
Kids who are placed in our Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes learn vital problem-solving skills. Each time anyone trains, they are always faced with new and evolving problems and situations that must be tackled and overcome. This is a phenomenal way to sharpen young and developing minds.
For instance, think of the times you were put in a complex situation. You had to follow the instructions to complete the move, then have the move completed on you. You had to connect this move to your current understanding. In order to use a new move, you need to connect them to things you are familiar with and already know. This type of learning is vital for young children.
Discipline & Problem Solving Skills
Kids learn discipline in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The structure, respect and discipline that BJJ and our classes provide can be transferred into many other aspects of life. They learn the following:
Dedication: Coming to each class and on time
Attention: Listening carefully to the Professor
Respect: Being humble around those more experienced
